Having worked in the golf travel industry for almost a decade, I know a thing or two about planning a golf holiday.
Whether you’re dreaming of the sunshine on faraway shores or prefer to stay closer to home, follow these steps to make booking your golf break a breeze.
Where to start
There are four key things you need to think about before you start planning your girls’ golf holiday:
- Budget: Decide how much you want to spend on your golf break to narrow your search and make the whole process of planning quicker.
- When: Trying to find a date when everyone is free? Send out a Doodle with a choice of up to five dates, wait for the responses to come in and voila!
- What else you’d like to do when you’re there: Where you go will depend a lot on what else you want to do whilst you’re there. Remember that golf breaks are a lot more than just golf; from culture to sightseeing and even time on the beach (ideal for hangover days). Spa treatment anyone?
- Weather: The weather has the potential to make or break your trip. So if you’re a bit of a fair-weather golfer, you might want to opt for a trip abroad.

The last thing to decide is where to go on your golf holiday. And with all your pre-planning done, you should find it quite easy to pick.
Do some research on the local area, listen to recommendations or look out for recommendations online and make a list of must-dos whilst you’re there.
How to save money on your golf break
You can really spend as much or as little you want to on a golf break. And the package you choose will generally depend on how many rounds you want to play.
But there are some easy ways to save money.
My advice is to always start by looking at stay and play golf packages. You’ll find some great-value deals which usually include dinner, bed and breakfast, so all you’ll need to pay for when you’re there are drinks.
If you only want to play a few rounds of golf, it’s a good idea to look for other deals too. Lots of hotels offer cheaper stays starting from a Sunday night, and it may be better value to just add your rounds of golf separately.
Does your club have any affiliations with other clubs? You may be able to play for free if you’re travelling on a budget.
And finally, if you’re heading abroad, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays tend to be off-peak so you may find cheaper flights on those days.
