England Girls’ Squad standout rallies from behind to defend her stroke play crown at Sherwood Forest

Composed Finish Seals Second Title

England’s Lauren Crump successfully defended her English Girls’ Open Stroke Play Championship title with a composed final round performance at Sherwood Forest, finishing two shots clear at 18-under par.

Crump began the week in style, shooting a 7-under opening round. Despite falling behind Lancaster’s Daisy Lee after rounds two and three, she stayed steady under pressure. Three shots back with 18 holes to play, the 17-year-old responded with six birdies in her final round to secure back-to-back titles.

“It feels amazing,” Crump said. “There was a lot of pressure coming into the week to do it again, and I’m just really happy I managed to pull it off.”

Lee produced a strong challenge, leading after the third round thanks to eight birdies in her own 67. But three bogeys on the final day opened the door for Crump, who took full advantage with a run of four birdies in five holes from 12 to 16.

Lee’s eagle on the 13th briefly closed the gap, but a missed par putt on the 14th gave Crump the space she needed to see out the win with steady pars.

Strong Performances Across the Field

The final round featured several standout performances. Chloe Tarbard, Crump’s England teammate and final-round playing partner, finished solo third at 12-under after a closing 69. The lowest round of the tournament came from Sunningdale’s Mia Ingham, who fired a bogey-free 65 to leap into fourth place and set a new course record at Sherwood Forest.

Pamela Osk Hjaltadottir of Iceland and Elizabeth Wilson also impressed with five-under rounds earlier in the week, while Wilson and Imogen Williamson tied for fifth at nine-under overall.
