Sixty-eight players from 38 clubs across the Midlands teed off at Shifnal Golf Club on Thursday, 22 May, for the opening event of the 2025 Midlands South Women’s Golf Association (MSWGA) Championships.
With fast fairways and quick greens, scoring proved tricky for many in this first competition of the season. Despite the tough conditions, Sarah Cranton of Stourbridge Golf Club emerged victorious, taking home the Dorothy Crooke Salver for Best Gross with a round of 76. She edged out MSWGA Captain Julie Brown of Trentham on countback.
Shifnal’s own Ros Moor earned top honours in the over-65 category, winning the Madeleine Fyshe Trophy with a gross score of 81. Meanwhile, Gillian Curley of Stratford upon Avon claimed the President’s Plate for Best Nett with a score of 72.
The MSWGA caters to women aged 50 and over, offering a range of competitions throughout the Midlands with both gross and nett prizes available. Full details on how to get involved are available at www.mswga.org.uk.
