First national triumph in 16 years secured at Alyth Golf Club

North ended a 16-year wait for national success with a commanding performance at the Scottish Women’s County Finals at Alyth Golf Club. The eight-strong squad, captained by Jenny Milne, swept all three of their matches to secure the title for the seventh time in the competition’s 116-year history.

Lanarkshire finished runners-up, edging out defending champions Midlothian on total points after the teams tied their head-to-head match. Dumfriesshire, winners in 2016, placed fourth.

Pride in the team

An emotional Milne praised her team after years of near misses:

“It feels fantastic – just brilliant. This team has been amazing, and their golf has been outstanding. We’ve worked hard over the past three years to reach the Finals, and to finally be champions is just great. I’m so pleased for the team.”

North’s players delivered consistently across the event, winning every foursomes and singles session. Every member of the squad contributed at least a point, underlining the depth of the team effort.

Ellie Docherty (Moray) and Kaci Robertson (Nairn Dunbar) were standout performers, each securing five-and-a-half points from six matches. Docherty said:

“I had a good feeling this week and it’s just been perfect. We’ve built such a strong bond through the jamborees and the finals. We have a load of laughs and are proud of each other—it’s such a great team to be part of.”

The Finals once again highlighted the camaraderie of women’s county golf. One example came from Midlothian’s Anne Hanson and 14-year-old Summer Xie, who teamed up in the foursomes despite a 50-year age gap, collecting one-and-a-half points across their matches.
